India's Diadem

She is exuberant to her youth, a companion to those with many a silver hair, a task mistress to the unrelenting, charming to the poet, inspiring to the artist and a goddess to the believer. She is every color in the rainbow. She is extraordinary in her ability to be a shade of everything and everyone that she houses. She is India: incredible and glorious in every aspect. She is a country of love and acceptance. She is a nation of diversity. She is a country of abundance. In that India, we live.

India! Everything from population to languages, from cuisine to costumes - is in plenty here. A country that is home to so much variety and color cannot but be a melting pot of cultures, traditions and humanity. With such vivaciousness about her, it is no mean task to identify the tiara but I believe I’ve found the biggest and brightest shining diamond - the diadem of Incredible India.

India- a country with 28 states and 7 union territories. A nation with as many as 30 different languages and over 2000 dialects. A republic with as many as 10 prevailing religious communities and many more sub communities. All of this and more can divide India into a million tiny parts. Take cuisine for instance - India is the gourmand’s delight, boasting not one or two but about as many cuisines as the number of stars in the night sky! Divisions on the basis of cuisine will shred the nation to bits. Yet, like multi colored pearls strung together, India shines through it all. That invisible, thin thread, binding us all together- it is unique of India.

The fine thread woven together with eons of wisdom is what makes the tiara so special. It is exquisite with its numerous silken threads interlaced with rare gems from far and wide. At the top of this spectacular diadem, sits the brightest gem. From here shines the light of love and humanity. From here stems Indianess and values so integral to us. As a beacon of light, it guides us through times rough and smooth. Wisdom and knowledge sparkle from here. It inspires us to uphold the tradition of welcoming every visitor as God. That diadem is what makes even the poorest of poor share his meal unhesitatingly with an unannounced guest. It illuminates us with the knowledge that we are ONE.

As long as we wear the diadem of spirituality proudly, we as a country will remain invincible. For our strength lies in the knowledge that we are one and that unity is the cause of our progress. No matter how slow, our progress as a nation is nothing short of phenomenal. After all, look at all that we are carrying along with us as we trudge ahead- over 5000 years of culture and tradition and a way of life so profound yet simple. Spirituality, is, as the wise one says, “the banana, while religion is the banana peel.” Who then wants to be stuck to the peel? It’s time we went back to tasting the real thing!

Well, every basket does have a couple of rotten eggs and so does this nation with a population of over a billion. Yet, these few can’t wipe off the luster from the diadem, nor can they dampen our glorious past. Definitely a handful cannot direct the course of our future. Its time, we gave our fabulous Mother land its due. Our future lies in our hands, all we need to do, is follow the light of spirituality. Just follow the light!

Well written:)!!
However, in all its good is also hidden the bad..
All freedom and no control & only talk and no action is only making the invisible thin thread weaker every day:(
A lot of India is still whining rather than shining!

@SD- I agree that a lot of India is whining and news today stands testimony to just that fact. Thats why the hope that we follow the light- the light of knowledge, spirituality, morality, values... to bring back India's lost glory... and yet, not forget that all the sheen aint wiped off yet... and wont be rubbed off that easily!
